If you scan it Raw or DNG, you then have a file you can archive and work it over and over again, like a negative or slide. It usually needs adjustment in an editing program anyway, so why do it twice. People spend too much time trying to get the scan right in the scanning software. When I use Vuescan, I just scan the image with no corrections and save as a DNG file.
